Ray Robinson - Partner
I have had a long association with Phipps having been a partner for over 30 years.
I have responsibility for the firm’s IT systems and as such have a great deal of practical experience of working with computers which I am happy to share with clients. Maybe I can help you too.
Being born and bred in Kent I have a keen interest in farming and have special responsibility for farming clients in our firm. I am a registered professional advisor with the NFU and am also a member of the Chartered Accountants Institute Farming and Rural Business special interest group.
I specialise in trust taxation, administration and financial planning.
Phipps are also registered auditors. However I do not see the audit as the only way of being involved with owner managed companies. I like to help in many other ways including the preparation of cash flows, management accounts and general business advice.
I am keen on all sports and in particular golf and striving to get my handicap down to single figures but there is still some way to go.

Neil Cunliffe - Partner
I have been an accountant and auditor since leaving University. I spent ten years with one of the big firms, much of my time spent with the owner-managed business sector. I have been with Phipps since 1999.
I retain my interest in audit, and am involved in most of the company audits that the firm undertakes. I deal with large and small companies, my largest company having a turnover in excess of £25 million.
However, my audit skills are not limited to companies. I have extensive knowledge of the charitable and not-for-profit sector. I carry out a number of audits and independent examinations for clients in this sector as well as helping clients in this area in many ways outside of just accounts.
I head up our Medical Practices Unit. We have a team of people dedicated to this specialist area. This is becoming an increasingly complex area, but also one full of planning opportunities for the modern GP practice. As members of AISMA (The Association of Independent Specialist Medical Accountants), we keep up to date with opportunities and developments in this sector.
I am actively involved in the local business support organisations, including Rye & District Chamber of Commerce (of which I am Company Secretary), Rye Partnership (of which I am Company Secretary) and 1066 Enterprise (of which I am a director). These help me to know what is going on within the local area and provides me with an opportunity to put something back into the community.
Outside of work, I am a keen sailor and golfer. I crew in a flying fifteen – a two man, fixed keel, 20ft dinghy. These are lovely boats to sail and extremely exhilarating in a blow! My golf is continually improving. A frustrating game at times but equally rewarding at others.
Whether you are a small sole trader, large partnership or a company, established or just setting out – I have the experience and determination to help you succeed.

Karen Burt - Partner
I qualified as a Chartered Certified Accountant in 1995 and in 2004 became a qualified Chartered Secretary.
I specialise in dealing with owner-managed businesses and enjoying working closely with my clients to help develop their businesses.
With my experience and specialist company secretarial qualification I am particularly well-placed to deal with Corporate clients.
I enjoy dealing with business start-ups, in particular being involved from the outset and helping with successful development of client businesses. It is important that advice is taken as soon as possible to ensure that clients structure their business in the most tax efficient manner and comply with legislation. I can provide the appropriate advice and support so that clients can concentrate on the core activities of their business.
I enjoy all sports and have represented my county at badmintion and cricket. I am also a keen-theatre-goer.
I am very keen to develop my portfolio of clients and welcome the opportunity to meet with any prospective clients. My email address is: karen.burt@phippsllp.co.uk

Nick Martin - Consultant
After training and qualifying as a Chartered Accountant with a medium sized firm in the City, I have specialised in General Practice. My years of experience enable me to see the bigger picture when advising on business and financial issues.
As well as services to owner managed businesses and professional partnerships, I have a particular interest in tax planning for both businesses and private individuals, the use of trusts, and executorship. Our inheritance planning service regularly saves very substantial sums of tax for our clients.
I give high priority to being accessible to my clients, and to communicating clearly with my clients in plain English and without jargon.
Phipps & Co are part of ABIAF, the Association of British Independent Accounting Firms. ABIAF has member firms throughout the United Kingdom and we meet regularly to keep up to date on the latest developments.
My other interests are music, travel and sailing, and I like to combine the first two. I am a keen opera goer, and feel strongly about the importance of all forms of live music.
